Welcome to the Cheyenne Animal Shelter’s new website!

Welcome to the Cheyenne Animal Shelter’s new website! We are excited for the opportunity to spend the past several months working to refresh and update our site in order to better serve you, the pets, and our community. I sincerely hope you’ll spend some time looking around.

As the digital “face” of the Shelter, our goals with this new site are to make it easier than ever to understand why the Shelter is an important community resource, what the programs, services, and philosophies are that aid in achieving our mission, and how you can get and give help where it is needed.

Three Little Words

Throughout the site, you’ll consistently see and read our new slogan: People. Pets. Community. Pre-pandemic, the Shelter undertook an effort to comprehensively survey the people of Laramie County, our supporters, and other key stakeholders. When asked what is most important about the Shelter and how its work can do the most good, these three words came up in the open-ended responses again and again.

It’s not just about serving unwanted, homeless, or displaced animals. It is about uniting a community around shared values and goals, about honoring the human-animal bond, and about responding to changing conditions affecting our friends, neighbors, and pets. When we put pets at the center of our slogan, it was an intentional decision. We believe it reflects the unique and powerful reality of our shared love and appreciation for the richness animals bring to our lived experiences. Now, at the beginning of a time of immense organizational change and adaptation, we’re pledging our commitment to honoring the people who make our work possible, the community in which we live and participate, and the pets at the center - holding all of that love and hope together.

This new site reflects a sense of pride and purpose. Pride in our work, our team, our community, the facilities and grounds, the programs and outcomes. Purpose in the way we structure those programs, the partnerships we sustain, and the strategies we employ. You’ll notice a streamlined adoption process, more user-friendly navigation, options to get involved, and ways to get help.

Restoration and Transformation

No longer are we focusing all of our efforts simply on how to provide the best care and outcomes for sheltered pets. With an eye toward becoming a comprehensive Community Animal Resource Center, we’re embracing the concepts of the Socially Conscious Sheltering movement and are employing various strategies to implement community-centered sheltering. These include:

  • Reducing Shelter intake and admissions

  • Providing compassionate care and housing

  • Performing responsible population management and understanding capacity for care

  • Creating additional live outcome programs and options

  • Developing a community-minded relationship and programs in partnership with the City of Cheyenne and Animal Control.

  • Enhancing trust and transparency through regular reporting of reliable and accurate data, including intake and outcome metrics as well as best-practice financial reporting. To this end, we’ve added a new Finances and Shelter Statistics page featuring interactive monthly dashboards. This is a feature we’re very excited about and which is made possible by our friends at Shelter Animals Count!

  • Providing a voice for animals in the realms of public policy and advocacy.

There is a lot of work to be done, and it is my sincere hope that you will come along with us for the journey. We’ll continue adding content to the site and will update you as programs evolve and new, life-saving measures unfold. In the meantime, you can keep up to date on all of the latest happenings, get behind-the-scenes stories and photos, and never miss the most important information by signing up for our e-newsletter on our homepage

If you made it this far in the blog, I’d be remiss not to also tell you about our giving options too. Visit this page to see all of the ways you can contribute to this life-saving, community-centered work. None of it would be possible without you, and we are grateful every day for your help.

Together and with compassion,

Britney
