CAS Foundation

MISSION

To afford reliable and consistent financial support for the efforts of the Cheyenne Animal Shelter in providing temporary housing and maintenance for lost, abandoned, abused or neglected pets until they can find their forever families.

HISTORY

Established in 2006 to support the long-term sustainability of the Shelter, the Cheyenne Animal Shelter Foundation is a separate 501(c)(3) charitable organization governed by an independent board of directors. Thanks in part to the foresight and generosity of legacy donors Marian Rochelle, Kirk Knox, and others, the Foundation has cultivated an endowment currently valued at more than 6.5 million dollars.

WHAT WE DO

The Foundation conscientiously invests current assets to propagate additional revenue for the Shelter’s operations; to provide for extraordinary facility needs and projects; and to maintain and grow our endowments for the future.

GOALS

To support the Cheyenne Animal Shelter’s vision of preserving and enhancing the human-animal bond through strategic investment of capital funds: driving facility, program, and service expansion.

STRATEGY

The Foundation will achieve our goals by:

  • Fostering meaningful relationships with potential and existing donors, giving them confidence that contributions will be used to accomplish the work we’ve identified.

  • Using prudent investment strategies to balance market fluctuations and the changing political climate.

  • Ensuring operational and fiscal responsibility through financial reporting, timely filings, and compliance with all state and federal regulations.

  • Promoting good stewardship by ensuring donors’ gifts are used as intended and by conducting regular audits of their use.

IMPACT

It is the aspiration of the Foundation to establish a significant endowment that will allow the Shelter to continue to provide high quality care, support and attention for animals in our community that come into their responsibility until such time as they can successfully be returned to their owners or be placed in their forever home by adoption. The Foundation currently provides almost $500,000 per year to the Shelter for this purpose, which far exceeds the amount we can realize from investments. Your donation will be added to our investment principal and will assist us in reaching our goal of being able to support the Shelter while preserving the integrity of our endowment.
