Low-Cost Community Services

In need of assistance?

For over 50 years, the Cheyenne Animal Shelter has proudly and passionately served Wyoming, striving to enhance the quality of life for pets and people alike. In a community filled with cherished pets and loving owners, the Shelter has become a beacon of compassion and care and a barometer for community health.

Our Community Service Programs are at the heart of our mission; protecting the irreplaceable human-animal bond and ensuring that pets and families thrive together.

We are honored to provide the following services:

Free Pet Food Pantry

The Cheyenne Animal Shelter provides a food assistance program to help people of the Laramie County Community during rough times. Anyone in need of cat or dog food is welcome to visit the Shelter during normal business hours to receive assistance. There are no requirements for eligibility and we will always do our best to accommodate the need.

Please understand that Cheyenne Animal Shelter can only provide donated food and cannot accommodate specific food requirements. CAS does not provide any canned or wet food (dog or cat) and does not provide litter under the Free Pet Food Pantry program.

Safety Net Programs for Owned Pets

Safehouse Shelter Boarding:

When a person enrolls in Safehouse, the shelter provides free boarding to their pets in an effort to try to keep pets with their people. Pets enrolled in this program may be visited by their people during their stay, and are provided with daily food, water, walks, socialization, and enrichment. This program offers spaying/neutering, microchips, and rabies vaccination of pets at no additional expense to the owner. (A Safehouse boarding contract is required for enrollment.)

COMEA Shelter Boarding:

When a person enrolls in COMEA, the shelter provides free boarding to their pets in an effort to try to keep pets with their people. We offer 30 days of boarding and pets enrolled in this program may be visited by their people during their stay, and are provided with daily food, water, walks, socialization, and enrichment. This program offers spaying/neutering, microchips, and rabies vaccination of pets at no additional expense to the owner. (A COMEA boarding contract is required for enrollment.)

Low-Cost Vaccination and Spay/Neuter Services:

When you factor in the array of essential vaccines, regular vet checks, and even microchips, pet owners are faced with a hefty bill to keep their cherished fluffy friends healthy. In 2023, the Cheyenne Animal Shelter served 1,333 pets through our public low-cost vaccine and spay/neuter clinics, supporting pet owners in their journey of protecting their beloved companions.
