Prince: the True Meaning of Generosity

Generosity is defined as the quality of being kind and generous. For pets like Prince, generosity means so much more.

Prince, a senior American Pit Bull Terrier, was surrendered to the Cheyenne Animal Shelter back in July after his family was no longer able to afford care for him. After some years of untreated allergies, Prince was left with skin and ear infections and special dietary needs. As hopeful as we were to find Prince’s fairytale ending, we knew it would take some time to find this sweet boy the right home.

July soon turned into October and Prince found comfort and love from our Shelter staff and volunteers. After countless cuddles, cookies, and Doggy Day Outs, we could see just how ready Prince was to find a family and home to call his own. In hopes of finally getting Prince his fairytale ending, Prince attended the Tankhouse Nursery’s Fall Festival. Surrounded by colorful pumpkins and falling leaves, it wasn’t long before Prince was noticed by a kind family and it’s safe to say that it was love at first sight.

Gregory and Ginny Dull swiftly adopted Prince, ready to take on his medical care and give him all the love and cuddles his heart desired. “We are loving having Prince in our family,” Ginny says. “He was very reserved at first and we weren’t sure he was happy with us but he has really come out of his shell. He has such a great personality!”

Prince now lives with two fur siblings, an adorable pug pair by the names of Zeus and Bella. The trio are typically found chasing each other through the yard before finding a sunny spot on the couch to snooze the day away. “The pugs, Zeus and Bella, sleep with us and Prince wasn’t sure about that at first, but now he’s in the bed with all of us. It’s a bit crowded but that’s okay.”

With his new family ensuring the best of care for his medical issues, Prince blossomed into the goofy dog he was always meant to be. “He enjoys walks, rabbits make him crazy and he wants to chase them, he loves rope bones and a squeaky toy called a Barkwurst.  He likes to do zoomies in the backyard and is not content until he is as close to you as he can get. He likes to look out our picture window and watch the world go by. Sleeping is a favorite pastime and he has bonded with me and my husband.”

For Prince, this is the true definition of generosity; being given a second chance at life with a family who loves and cares for him unconditionally. While generosity comes in many shapes and sizes, you can unleash the love this holiday season and create second chances for pets like Prince when you donate to the pets and programs at the Cheyenne Animal Shelter.
